Talbola Finalé
The village hall at Peynier was a fabulous venue. The windows along one wall with a magnificent view of the St. Victoire. Our ticket sellers, Cheryl and Marie-Luz were poised at the door by 19:45, while Richard, and Ko manned the bar. Juliet had laid out all the prizes on display.
As folks started to arrive the group The True Ones struck up the music and people settled down with friends to unpack picnics and share wine at their tables. By the second number some were already dancing. Anticipation built till at 21:00 all went quiet for the grand draw.
The team, Liz, Juliet, Jan, Carol and Lish, swung into action. They are very slick. First Richard and I accepted , on Taliesin’s behalf , a cheque for the amazing sum of 6000 euros. I made a very teary thank you speech in French/English and the draw began. Our runners, Carol, Melina and Stella dashed round the room delivering vouchers for prizes to the lucky winners. After lots of oohs and aahhs and cheering it went through super fast.
So back to the music and the dancing! When finally, to comply with noise regulations, we had to wind down, everyone turned their hand to clearing the room. Within 20 minutes it was done, swept and we were ready to lock up. What a brilliant team effort. The entry fees covered the costs and we all had a fun time. It was a great way to celebrate the successful end of the Talbola.
As for the operation, the team here plan to raise their glasses to Taliesin on June 14th to wish him well or as Juliet says, “TALLYHO!”
